PAUL GOODMAN CHANGED MY LIFE
A Portrait of the Famed '60s Philosopher-Writer-Provocateur
US Theatrical Premiere Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Film Forum-NYC
Film Forum is pleased to present the US theatrical premiere of Jonathan Lee's compelling new documentary portrait of a man and his times, PAUL GOODMAN CHANGED MY LIFE, beginning Wednesday, October 19.
Paul Goodman's 1960 best-seller, Growing Up Absurd, became a cornerstone of countercultural thinking during a
tumultuous decade -- alongside titles like The Medium Is The Message, The Autobiography of Malcolm X, and The Feminine Mystique.
Goodman (1911-1972) was a polymath: a poet, essayist, novelist, playwright, and psychotherapist, as well as a bundle of fascinating contradictions: an anarchist who craved accolades from the literary establishment; a rebel who published prodigiously; a man of significant intellectual sophistication who managed to attract and antagonize peers and acolytes alike; an active, self-identified bisexual who maintained a marriage and helped raise three children.
Jonathan Lee weaves together old and new footage of those who extol Goodman's virtues, as well as his adamant detractors (often one and the same), including Grace Paley, Ned Rorem, Deborah Meier, William F. Buckley, Susan Sontag, Jason Epstein, Michael Walzer, and Judith Malina. Today, much of what passes for common knowledge in the fields of education, politics, psychology, urban planning, civil rights, and sexual politics was first posited by Paul Goodman nearly half a century ago.
PAUL GOODMAN CHANGED MY LIFE will have a 2-week engagement, October 19 - November 1, at Film Forum, West Houston Street (West of 6th Avenue), with screenings daily at 1:00, 2:50, 4:40, 6;30, 8:20, 10:10.
PAUL GOODMAN CHANGED MY LIFE (2011, 89 minutes) Produced & Directed by Jonathan Lee. Produced
& Edited by Kimberly Reed. Co-produced by Robert Hawk & Israel Ehrisman. Cinematographer: Benjamin Shapiro. Original Music: Miriam Cutler. USA. A Zeitgeist Films Release.

Alive Mind Cinema Releases Spirituality documentary
A film by Alex Mar
American Mystic (2010)
On DVD: Sept. 27, 2011
New York, NY - September 23, 2011 - Alive Mind Cinema is proud to announce the DVD release of American Mystic (2010), a film by Alex Mar examining different spiritual practices among three individuals.
American Mystic comes to DVD with special features, including commentary tracks by director Alex Mar, and Pagan priestess Morpheus Ravenna, and additional scenes (Table Tipping with Spiritualist Mediums, A Special Pagan Campground, and A Teen Pagan's Bedroom Tour). The street date for the DVD is September 27th, with a SRP of $24.98.
Set against the rich, color-soaked backdrop of America's rural landscapes, American Mystic is a bold and artful documentary that braids together the stories of three young Americans who have chosen to sacrifice comforts in order to embrace the fringes of alternative religion.
The subjects include: Chuck, a Lakota Sioux sundancer in the badlands of South Dakota; Morpheus, a Pagan priestess living off the grid in northern California's old mining country; and Kublai, a Spiritualist medium in the former revivalist district of upstate New York.
In the radical, separatist spirit of early America, each has extracted himself from the mainstream in order to live immersed in his faith and seize a different way of life.
Director Alex Mar's lyrical first work takes a personal, visually lush approach, enveloping the viewer in the subjects' experience of their controversial faiths through their own words, their rituals, and the sprawling, majestic imagery that makes up each of their worlds.

Paladin and Shady Acres Film presents
I AM
Opens March 11, 2011 in Los Angeles and March 18th in New York
I AM, the latest film by renowned director Tom Shadyac (Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Nutty Professor, Patch Adams, Bruce Almighty) recounts what happened to the filmmaker after a cycling accident left him incapacitated, possibly for good.
Though he ultimately recovered, Shadyac emerged a changed man.
Disillusioned with life on the A-list, he sold his house, moved to a mobile home community, and decided to start life anew. Armed with nothing but his innate curiosity and a camera crew, Shadyac embarks upon a journey to discover how he as an individual, and we as a race, can improve the way we live.
Appearing on-screen as character, commentator, guide, and even, at times, guinea pig, Shadyac meets with a variety of thinkers and doers--remarkable men and women from the worlds of science, philosophy, and faith--including such luminaries as David Suzuki, Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Lynne McTaggart, Ray Anderson, John Francis, Coleman Barks, and Marc Ian Barasch.
An irrepressible Everyman who asks many questions but offers no easy answers, he takes the audience to places it has never been before, and presents even familiar phenomena in completely new and different ways.
All proceeds derived from the release of I AM, in all media, will go to THE FOUNDATION FOR I AM, a not-for-profit established by Shadyac to fund various worthy causes and to educate the next generation about the very issues and problems explored in the film.
I AM is a Shady Acres Film presented by Flying Eye Productions in association with Homemade Canvas Productions.
