BILL CUNNINGHAM NEW YORK
Charming Portrait of the Peripatetic New York Times Fashion Photographer Has
World Theatrical Premiere Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Film Forum-NYC
Film Forum is pleased to present the world theatrical premiere of Richard Press’s BILL CUNNINGHAM NEW YORK, a delightful portrait of the visionary fashion photographer whose elegant, influential work unfailingly graces the pages of The New York Times each week.
Filmmaker Richard Press says it took 10 years to make this portrait of Cunningham, the first eight spent convincing his peripatetic, bicycle-riding 80+-year-old subject to acquiesce. Anyone who has so much as glanced at the Styles section of the Times will recognize Cunningham’s work: an obsessive, meticulous, witty and eclectic array of images of New Yorkers dressed to kill.
Cunningham is famous for spotting trends before anyone else, for giving young and unknown fashionistas as much play as society’s grande dames, and for rejecting every hostess’s effort to get him to stop for just one moment to sip champagne or shoot the breeze.
Throughout most of the filming, Cunningham still lived in monk-like asceticism above Carnegie Hall, where he’d been for 50 years, his most conspicuous décor a phalanx of photography-filled file cabinets. Wearing a blue jacket and riding his 29th Schwinn bicycle (the first 28 were stolen), Bill Cunningham is one of our city’s living legends, a New York original who has joyously transformed fashion into urban anthropology.
BILL CUNNINGHAM NEW YORK will have a 2-week engagement, March 16 - 29, at Film Forum,
West Houston Street (W. of 6th Avenue), with screenings daily at 1, 2:50, 4:30, 6:20, 8:10 and 10:10.
BILL CUNNINGHAM NEW YORK (2010, 84 mins.) Directed by Richard Press. Produced by Philip Gefter. Photographed by Tony Cenicola, Richard Press. Editor: Ryan Denmark. Additional editing: Barry Alexander Brown. Photographic animations: Keira Alexandra. Featuring: Bill Cunningham, Anna Wintour, Tom Wolfe, Kim Hastreiter, Brooke Astor.
USA. A Zeitgeist Films release.

Phase 4 Films
Presents
Vidal Sassoon the Movie
Opens in New York City on February 11, 2011 and in Los Angeles on February 18th!
Directed by Craig Teper
A feature documentary spanning 80 years of revolution in culture, as told through the life of one extraordinary man, VIDAL SASSOON THE MOVIE is the revealing and inspirational story of how one man changed the world with a pair of scissors.
VIDAL SASSOON THE MOVIE is a true rags-to-riches tale, tracing Sassoon’s path from a London orphanage to international success and celebrity. Producer Michael Gordon, founder of hair care company Bumble and bumble, first set out to document Vidal's life in a richly visual book about icons in the world of hairdressing.
What started as an 80th birthday tribute to Sassoon became a movie when Gordon brought on director Craig Teper. While chronicling the fashion, style and social revolutions of the 1960s, VIDAL SASSOON THE MOVIE shows how Sassoon revolutionized the world of hair with his pioneering, geometric, Bauhaus-inspired styles and “wash and wear” philosophy, literally changing the way women look and cut their hair today.
Phase4 Films will release VIDAL SASSOON THE MOVIE in New York on February 11th, 2011 and in Los Angeles on February 18th, 2011.
Produced by Michael Gordon and Jackie Gilbert Bauer

HOW ONE MAN CHANGED THE WORLD WITH A PAIR OF SCISSORS_]By Amy Slotnick_
If you didn’t already know this, Vidal Sassoon is the most important person in hair dressing. And after watching the new documentary, VIDAL SASSOON: THE MOVIE, that is more meaningful than I originally thought. _Not only did he
reinvent how women look and feel and inspired what’s fashionable for the past 50 years, his is a true rags to riches story._
The story of Vidal Sassoon before he founded his first salon is as interesting and impactful as his celebrated career. As a Jewish child of post war London, Vidal lived in a London orphanage before reuniting with his mother. She had a vision that he would one day be a hairdresser and as a result, arranged for him to apprentices a barber.
Taking much of his inspiration from the modern architecture Bauhaus and Frank Lloyd Wright, Sassoon says in the film that, “hair dressing needed to be changing.” Instead of poufy and teased, for the first time hair became geometric and angular, styled to fit a woman’s bone structure. Sassoon’s iconic look, which he says took nine years to develop, eliminated the superfluous and was easier for women to maintain.

The first two of these fashionable ringtones from THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE are available at http://www.myxer.com/partner/22931480/.
FILM SYNOPSIS
Anna Wintour, the legendary editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine for twenty years, is the most powerful and polarizing figure in fashion. Hidden behind her trademark bob and sunglasses, she has never allowed anyone to scrutinize the inner workings of her magazine. Until now. With unprecedented access, filmmaker R.J. Cutler’s new film The September Issue does for fashion what he did for politics in The War Room, taking the viewer inside a world they only think they know.
Every August a record-breaking number of people can’t wait to get their hands on the September issue of Vogue. The 2007 issue was and remains the biggest ever, weighing over four pounds, selling thirteen million copies, and impacting the $300-billion global fashion industry more than any other single publication. An intimate, funny and surprising look at Anna Wintour and her team of larger-than-life editors as they create this must-have Bible of fashion, Cutler explores the untouchable glamour of Wintour’s Vogue to reveal the extraordinarily passionate people at its heart. He takes us behind the scenes at Fashion Week, to Europe, on shoots and reshoots, and into closed-door staff meetings, bearing witness to an arduous, entertaining, and sometimes emotionally demanding process.
At the eye of this annual fashion hurricane is the two-decade relationship between Wintour and Grace Coddington, incomparable Creative Director and fashion genius. They are perfectly matched for the age-old conflict between creator and curator. Through them, we see close-up the delicate creative chemistry it takes to remain at the top of the ever-changing fashion field.

Los Angeles (August 13, 2009) – Phase 4 Films is pleased to announce the U.S. DVD and Blu-ray release of “VALENTINO THE LAST EMPEROR” on September 8, 2009. Produced and directed by Matt Tyrnauer, Special Correspondent for Vanity Fair magazine, the feature length film made its world premiere in 2008 at the Venice Film Festival, received three standing ovations at the Toronto International Film Festival, and opened theatrically to overwhelming critical acclaim earlier this year.
An inspirational look into the life and times of the iconic fashion designer Valentino, the film documents the colorful and dramatic closing act of the last true couturier's celebrated career, and revisits the story of his extraordinary life and work. But at the heart of the film is the unique and endearing relationship between Valentino and his business partner and companion of 50 years, Giancarlo Giammetti.
The DVD and Blu-ray of VALENTINO THE LAST EMPEROR brings the viewer even deeper into the designer’s elegant world of high fashion, showcasing 46 minutes of bonus material with never-before-seen footage. Phase 4 Films is the new theatrical, DVD and television distribution company founded by former Peace Arch Home Entertainment President, Berry Meyerowitz.
“VALENTINO is an exciting, inside peek into the glamorous world of fashion,” said Berry Meyerowitz, President & CEO of Phase 4 Films. “Yet at its heart, this film is about the personal and professional relationship of two men who built an empire together for over four decades. We are thrilled to present this on DVD and Blu-ray.”
"The film has brought Valentino's genius to a broader audience, and also shows, for the first time, the man behind the legend. Many people who thought they knew Valentino discovered the human face behind the icon in this film. I am thrilled to partner with Phase 4 Films to bring the movie to an even broader audience on DVD,” said Director Matt Tyrnauer.
VALENTINO THE LAST EMPEROR provides a first-time glimpse into Valentino’s world of bygone glamour. Filmed from June 2005 to July 2007, the crew shot over 250 hours of footage with exclusive, unprecedented access to Valentino and his entourage. We follow Michael Kelly, Valentino’s Irish majordomo, as he prepares a lavish party at Chateau de Wideville, Valentino’s estate outside of Paris. We see the stunning rooms of the chateau, inhabited this evening by Gwyneth Paltrow, Elton John and Martha Stewart.
Evoking films such as Renoir's The Rules of the Game and Altman's Gosford Park, we go back and forth between upstairs, where Valentino entertains his guests, and downstairs, where Michael Kelly directs the highly polished legion of under butlers, waiters, chefs and maids. In a second chapter, we fly on a private aircraft with Valentino and his entourage to Gstaad for a ski vacation. Finally, we follow Valentino to Manhattan, as the designer visits New York City for the annual Met Costume Institute Benefit Gala.
In THE LAST COLLECTION (8 minutes), we see Valentino’s emotion-filled farewell haute couture show, which took place in January 2008 at the Rodin Museum in Paris, five months after the designer announced his retirement. Memorable for its all-red finale, the last collection is a dazzling tour de force that showcases Valentino’s breathtaking talent. Making appearances in this feature: Uma Thurman, Claudia Schiffer, Lucy Liu, Miuccia Prada.
