2-1/2 stars (out of 4) [(2001)USA/Rated R] - (2 hrs. 1 min.)
Review:
The Hughes Bros. have done better (MENACE 2 SOCIETY) and worse (DEAD PRESIDENTS) than this restrained period melodrama about Jack the Ripper.
Johnny Depp (BLOW, THE MAN WHO CRIED, SLEEPY HOLLOW) gets another role he can do in his sleep - and does.
The most illogical casting choice is the glistening white, cap-toothed smile of Heather Graham (SIDEWALKS OF NY, SAY IT ISN'T SO) framing the face of a down-trodden English hooker (and Jack's next victim - ooh the suspense).
Cameo by Ian Holm (LORD OF THE RINGS: TFOTR) is wasted.
Okay rental, but nothing special.
