TO WOO HOME AUDIENCES THIS VALENTINE’S DAY
WITH THE RELEASE OF
I HATE VALENTINE’S DAY
ON DVD & BLU-RAY ON FEBRUARY 9th, 2010
First on-screen reunion for Nia Vardalos and John Corbett since the 2002 hit MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING
I HATE VALENTINE'S DAY is one of the most successful IFC in Theater VOD releases of all-time
New York (February 2, 2010) – Just in time for Valentine’s Day 2010, IFC Films and MPI Media Group are excited to announce the DVD and Blu-ray release of the romantic comedy I HATE VALENTINE’S DAY. Written by Nia Vardalos, this hilarious film is her directorial debut, and marks her first on-screen reunion with John Corbett since the 2002 hit MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING.
A comedy for the romantically challenged, I HATE VALENTINE’S DAYrevolves around a romantic, carefree florist who charms a commitment-phobic restaurant owner into trying her theory of no-relationship dating. Released in July 2009 via the IFC in Theaters, which brings critically acclaimed independent films to home audiences on VOD the same day they premiere in theaters, I HATE VALENTINE’S DAY is one of the most successful day-and-date on-demand releases of all time. The DVD and Blu-ray of I HATE VALENTINE’S DAY showcases bonus material including a commentary by Vardalos joined by producers William Sherak and Jason Shuman for a discussion on indie filmmaking.
Nia Vardalos commented, “Getting any movie made is difficult. Sure we had challenges and a budget about equal to catering on other movies, but I saw this as an opportunity to hang out with good friends. I loved working with John Corbett, plus several cast members, friends from Second City, flew to NY and slept on Rachel Dratch’s couch just so they could laugh when I said “action!”
“Nia and John once again prove to be a winning combination in this witty and irresistible film” said Greg Newman, President & CEO of MPI Media Group. “We are thrilled to be working with Nia and John and our friends at IFC Films to present I HATE VALENTINE’S DAY on DVD and Blu-ray.”
Genevieve (Vardalos) loves romance, flowers and Valentine’s Day. All of which is fitting as the owner of “Roses for Romance,” a quaint flower shop in the heart of a friendly Brooklyn, NY neighborhood. Her one problem is that she hates relationships.
Having been hurt numerous times in the past when it comes to matters of the heart, Genevieve keeps herself happy by not letting anyone in. Dating is a game to her, a game she is very good at. Genevieve doesn’t get dumped and never gets hurt because she doesn’t stick around long enough for things to get ugly.
Then she meets Greg (Corbett). He’s good looking, funny and humble. Having recently moved into town, Greg left his old career as an attorney in Atlanta to start up a new Tapas restaurant, “Get On Tapas.” So how is this hot guy still single? It’s because, unlike Genevieve, Greg has no game. He can never seem to understand the rules of dating or how to romance a woman.
After the two meet, Genevieve explains her theory to Greg: Only date a person for five dates and “when the romance is gone, move on.” Greg decides to try this new way of dating. For him, it seems like a good way to avoid his usual break up disasters. However, neither one could have predicted just how high the sparks would fly when the two of them are together. Both are falling madly in love. So when the five dates are over, Genevieve’s theory of romance is truly tested…
I HATE VALENTINE’S DAY also stars Zoe Kazan (“It’s Complicated”), Judah Friedlander (“30 Rock”) and Rachel Dratch (“Saturday Night Live”). William Sherak, Jason Shuman and Madeleine Sherak produced, with Dominic Ianno and Michael Gallant serving as executive producers.
