TUESDAY, AFTER CHRISTMAS, Adultery Romanian Style
New Drama Premieres Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Film Forum
Film Forum is pleased to present TUESDAY, AFTER CHRISTMAS a new Romanian drama from Radu Muntean, beginning Wednesday, May 25. The Romanian New Wave of the past decade has yielded such internationally acclaimed gems as 4 MONTHS, 3 WEEKS AND 2 DAYS, THE DEATH OF MR. LAZARESCU and 12:08 EAST OF BUCHAREST.
Add to them this elegant, emotionally resonant drama of a middle-class couple whose 10-year marriage is rocked by the husband's illicit affair with their daughter's sexy dentist.
In many respects it's an oft-told tale: Paul must choose between the easy rapport and stability of his family life and the uncertainty and excitement of a relationship with a much younger woman. In scorchingly intense long takes, the power dynamics among these three are unpredictable and, in the end, devastating.
The fact that the two leads are actually a married couple adds to the verisimilitude. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2010 and was a selection of the New York Film Festival the same year.
TUESDAY AFTER CHRISTMAS will have a 2-week engagement, May 25 - June 7, at Film Forum, West Houston Street (W. of 6th Avenue), with screenings daily at 1:15, 3:15, 6:00, 8:00 and 10:00.
TUESDAY, AFTER CHRISTMAS (2010, 99 mins.) Directed by Radu Muntean. Produced by Dragos Vilcu. Written by Alexandru Baciu, Razvan Radulescu, Radu Muntean. Director of Photography: Tudor Lucaciu. POLICE, ADJECTIVE coming to USA On Dec. 23, 2009!
Press release
POLICE, ADJECTIVE
Opens in New York on
December 23, 2009
Nationally in January
POLICE, ADJECTIVE. Romania’s official Oscar selection and winner of a 2009 Cannes Jury Prize (Un Certain Regard) and FIPRESCI international critics’ prize, Corneliu Porumboiu’s whip-smart, dryly funny follow-up to his acclaimed debut 12:08 EAST OF BUCHAREST (Camera d’Or, 2006) centers on a police officer on a surveillance mission who has a crisis of faith.
The film was a critical favorite at the recent Toronto and New York film festivals and will open in New York on December 23 with a national release to follow in January. It will also be available nationwide on IFC Films’ video on demand platform, available to over 50 million homes in all major markets.
Cristi (Dragos Bucur) is a young undercover cop pressured to arrest a teenager who offers hashish to two of his schoolmates. “Offering” is harshly punished by the law, but Cristi believes that the law will change. Not wanting to ruin the life of a young man he considers merely irresponsible, Cristi must either allow the arrest to be a burden on his conscience, or face censure by his self-serious superior (Vlad Ivanov of 4 MONTHS, 3 WEEKS AND 2 DAYS) for whom the word “conscience” has an entirely different meaning.
Writer/director Corneliu Porumboiu approaches his story with the exacting patience of a master ironist, culminating in one of the most unexpected comedic payoffs in years—an extraordinary dissection of language that affirms his reputation as one of the most exciting new talents in European cinema.
